Men's mental health is rarely discussed, however it is a big issue, as statistically more men commit suicide than women.
A hairdresser has turned his barber shop in to a safe place for men to talk about their mental health.
Tom Chapman, a barber from Torquay, lost a friend – Alex – to suicide around two years ago. “I was completely unaware he was going to take his life,” Chapman recalls. “It was something that made me think we need to do something as a prevention, something that will kick in before.” A year later, he set up the Lions Barber Collective, which is in the process of becoming a registered charity, with the aim of transforming barbershops into safe, confidential, non-judgemental spaces for men to talk about their mental health with their barber in 2015.
