As a former member the Gender and Disaster Taskforce whose work paved the way for greater acceptance of the need for cultural change in Victoria's emergency management sector it is great to see the launch of the Diversity and Inclusion Framework. The Framework is a great step on the journey towards a modern emergency management sector that doesn't just understand the differences in our community but makes the most of them too.
The EM sector is evolving and needs to acknowledge that everyone has something to offer, yet we don’t always draw on all of the capability, knowledge and experience available to us. Therefore, we need to improve. Valuing people, respecting diversity, and being inclusive are critical to our success as an emergency management sector, and as individuals.
