I've seen a few tweets in the last week or so from users being banned by Niantic from using Pokemon Go. The reason? Due to their physical disabilities, they used "cheating" apps to be able to take part in the game. Indeed, Pokemon Go isn't terribly accessible in its current format to a lot of players.
Niantic's behaviour seems particularly harsh when you consider that no one can win at Pokemon Go. In its current format, gyms notwithstanding, playing the game can only really done for your own enjoyment and sense of personal achievement.
Maybe Niantic should spend more time listening to its users and making the game more accessible, and less time on penalizing users and shutting down helpful apps.
Anna Mardoll who is afflicted with scoliosis and is unable to walk or utilize a wheelchair mentioned in an email via the website that: "I am not angry or upset at all about the ban. I am disappointed to lose access to the game and I'm unexpectedly sad at not being able to say 'goodbye' to my Pokemon (which is totally illogical, I know!), but I'm at peace with Niantic's decision and I knew this could happen."
