Annual income from charitable legacies rose by 8 per cent during 2014, according to new data. Figures from legacy information provider Smee & Ford found giving across England and Wales rose from to £2.208bn last year, from £2.044bn in 2013. The increase was despite a 1 per cent fall in the number of people who died, as almost 35,000 people left gifts to charity in their Wills. Published during Remember A Charity in your Will Week, the figures showed 112,937 gifts were left to charity in Wills last year, with supporters typically choosing to benefit three charities. The overall number of charities benefiting from donations increased 5 per cent to 2,257 last year.
