Becky Hammon is the first woman to head coach an NBA summer league team (the San Antonio Spurs). She gave insightful comments about the importance of women in all fields after their first game, and is an example of how women can be recognized in sports for their brains as well as their brawn. Women serving in this type of coaching job will hopefully become more normalized, but nevertheless Hammon's accomplishment is a historic feat.
"To me, it's always about bigger picture. We want to make sure that when your wife or your daughter goes in for a job interview, she gets the same opportunity that a guy gets. I think that's the bigger picture, that's the bigger goal. Whether it's basketball or in the army or in CEOs or in operating rooms, we want women there."
