Dear Saudi Arabia,
As I read this utterly inspirational piece on the announcement of your self-proclaimed right to 'cover women's eyes, especially the tempting ones,' I had an epiphany. How about we cover up everything that invokes the horrors of 'temptation'!? Let's cover up all the oil rigs, Saudi - to help you avoid the sins of greed and avarice. And of course gluttony invoking chocolate will need to forever remain wrapped in its cover (maybe only eaten behind closed doors at night with the lights off). Do you think we should cover up all the handsome young men too? No wait - what was I thinking... women understand the flip side of the word temptation, little word called resistance - so scrap that!
The Dark Ages
Nabet announced yesterday that the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice will cover any women’s eyes that are deemed “tempting.” “The men of the committee will interfere to force women to cover their eyes, especially the tempting ones” he said. “[We] have the right to do so.” What are “tempting” eyes? One Saudi journalist mused on condition of anonymity that they are “uncovered eyes with a nice shape and makeup. Or even without makeup, if they are beautiful, the woman will be in trouble.” The Orwellian-named committee did not provide a definition of tempting, but if they happen to rely on Merriam-Webster, then it means “having an appeal.”
