You might not particularly enjoy Emma Watson's acting but her speech at the UN was timely and important. The reaction to it from detractors of gender equality proves this all too well.
Feminism gets a bad rep, but as Emma Watson clearly puts it, it's a movement that at its base supports all genders, and needs all genders working together to create a better world. Men also suffer under the kyrarchy and I keep hoping we've moved on from the tired clichés that feminism hates men. It seems we have not.
A web page titled Emma You Are Next, featuring an image of the Harry Potter star next to a countdown, suggests the actress will be targeted at midnight on Friday. The page also features the logo of 4chan, the site which is said to have hosted two recent leaks of naked celebrity photos. Jennifer Lawrence and Kim Kardashian are among those to be targeted. The threat was launched hours after Watson, 24, launched the HeForShe campaign in a speech at the UN in which she appealed to men to speak out over gender equality.
